The Traditional Throwing stick was a tool used in conjunction with a harpoon. the throwing stick extended the arm of the hunter thus giving him more leverage to throw the harpoon . This increased the force of the throw and the range of the harpoon.

If you have never tried this in kayak it is difficult to appreciate just how hard it is to throwing a harpoon effectively from a narrow kayak at water level . As one can imagine it is easy to capsize while practicing this hunting technique. It is because of this that a kayaker learned to roll with a throwing stick.

Today traditional paddlers enjoy testing there skills by learning to roll with a throwing stick. Kayakers who learn to roll with a throwing stick will find its a small step from the throwing stick rolls to a hand roll. Of coarse the best reason to learn to use a throwing stick is its just plain fun.

Throwing sticks can be as simple or as ornate as the user desires. We will do custom carving and inlay at your request or we will send you an unfinished blank for you to decorate and finish in you own way
