The storm paddle what the
Greenlanders call the short paddle, is used as an alternative to the "long "
paddles in windy conditions. when using the short paddle as sliding stroke
is employed. this keep the off water end of the paddle from catching as much
wind. |

Today many kayakers use a storm paddle as their back up paddle and it is not
uncommon to see folks with a euro blade in hand and a storm paddle on the
front deck in easy reach when needed |

The storm paddle when compared to the touring paddle has about the same
blade length and width. It is in the loom that a storm paddle is shorter.
The width of the loom on a storm paddle is one to two fist widths, making
the storm paddle no more then 6' in length. |

With that said, I recommend that you order a storm paddle that fits on you
front deck where you can use it.. as a result you may want a paddle as short
5' to 5'6". |
