Class Descriptions
Body, Boat, Balance/Blade
In this morning of moving around on top of your kayak, you will play with stability points, balance, and posture with the goal of increasing your confidence in edging, bracing, and conditions. You’ll begin in your cockpit, ease onto your deck, and from there, you will move back and forth, face up and face down, and probably take a swim. If you fall in, you’ll be coached through a cowboy scramble. By the end of the session, you’ll be better able to use your posture and center of gravity to control your boat in any conditions, plus you’ll have had a lot of fun.
Tides and currents
It’s the new moon! We have a spring tide and some good currents to play in. Examining a chart and tide table, we will plan our day around the tides so that we can play in the tidal currents of this NJ Inlet. We will examine how conditions change with the tide and how we can plan and adapt to the dynamic conditions. We will work on “Peel Outs”, “Eddy turns”, “Ferries”, “Setting”, and much more! One visiting instructor called this location “Disneyland for Kayakers”, come and hop on a ride!
